For parents of soccer athletes and other youth sports in Lake Wales, there’s a few things your car can do to help you make it through season with ease.
The kids are back in the swing of things at school in Polk County and most of us know what that means: it’s time for youth sports again. The Lake Wales Soccer Club, for example, just kicked off their fall recreation season. For those of you who are proud soccer moms in Central Florida, we at the Lake Wales Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM have some tips for you to make it through the season.
- Find a friend to help with carpooling. This won’t be hard to do as the people out there are in the same situation as you with the great struggle of juggling work, school, and soccer schedules. This can help you get your child to practice or back home and it doesn’t always have to be you. Also, this friend and other parents you meet in the carpool group may have some advice on where to get the best gear for the sport.
- Get a good chair. The seating at most practice fields are minimal (or benches at best). After a little while your back will hurt, and your rear will get cold or numb (or both). Get one that folds and consider how it will fit in the car. Our new and pre-owned family vehicles (like the Dodge Durango, Chrysler Pacifica, Dodge Journey, Jeep Grand Cherokee, and more) can easily fit a lawn chair (or two or three) in the back cargo area.
- Consider shoes and always keep a spare pair in the car. You’ve probably thought about sunglasses and light shirts, which are all smart choices for our endless summers here in Central Florida, but consider the shoes. Flip flops, though comfortable and a staple to our lifestyle, are not very serviceable field-side. And, with our rainy season, it doesn’t hurt to keep a spare pair of shoes in the back of the car for those days when the fields are wet.
- Through our relentless rainy season, the fields may be wet, and you know what that could mean: mud. Post-practice or post-game, the best thing to do to help minimize the muck reaching the car is to put cleats in a plastic bag before the junior athletes pile in.
